Originally, I’m from Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, but I’ve spent the last 15 years of my life living all over the country as I chased various educational and professional opportunities.

I earned my undergraduate degree in English at Davidson College in North Carolina before completing my MFA in Creative Writing (poetry, specifically) at Arizona State University. As a Teaching Assistant with Writing Programs, I taught first-year composition and fell in love with working with students to improve their communication skills. Since then, I’ve taught courses in English, composition, and creative writing at the middle school, high school, and college level while continuing to write and publish poems.

These days, I live in Maryland with my husband, an Assistant Professor of Communication and English and an historian of rhetoric, and our son. In my free time, I enjoy cooking, reading mystery novels, and tabletop gaming (I’m a particularly big Dungeons & Dragons fan and have been playing with the same group since graduate school!).
